Welcome to Knuckleheads Winter Recreation Association
"Enhancing access and providing infrastructure to promote alpine recreation throughout the Powell River backcountry."
The KWRA is a volunteer-driven group passionate about alpine recreation in the Qathet Regional District of British Columbia. In partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, we maintain four huts nestled in the breathtaking "Knucklehead Range" and at Emma Lake. Built, maintained, stocked and user access is maintained by volunteers—with support from user fees and memberships—these huts welcome adventurers on a first-come, first-served basis.
Our vibrant community unites motorized and non-motorized enthusiasts who revel in the mountains year-round. From annual events to trail and cabin upkeep, we invite you to join us in the joy of working together in stunning natural settings.
Be part of the KWRA—help us sustain and expand recreational access for all!
Backcountry Cabins

Our four backcountry cabins provide a rustic yet comfortable retreat for backcountry explorers. Built and maintained by volunteers, these cabins are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, no reservation system and are user maintained during stay. Stays are by donation and day use donations are strongly encouraged to help maintain and improve these essential shelters.
